Populating JHU CCD Headers

This procedure only applies to the JHU cold camera data. You can immediately identify JHU data from the filename. It should have the form DEVICE.NUM.fits. Where DEVICE is the CCD serial number and NUM is a 3 digit index number.

  1. Log in to acs16
  2. Copy the FITS data files into a working directory.
  3. If the copied files are already compressed then uncompress them. This can be accomplished by typing: gunzip --verbose *.gz in your working directory.
  4. Be sure that /acs/instrument/archive/bin is in your PATH.
  5. Start the CCD IDL environment by typing ccd_idl
  6. Verify that there are no errors or warnings as IDL starts
  7. Once in IDL run the jhu_header routine.
  8. If jhu_header completes successfully, delete the 'no header' files: /bin/rm *.nh.fits
